total historical giving by donor

| We send a letter to our donors when they reach a giving milestone...$1000, $5000, $10000 and so on. I can't find a way to run a report that lists all givers with a total of giving over a specified amount. Is this possible? If not, please consider it as a future update. |

Hi adlane,
Is this within a given time frame? You can always use the Batch Receipts report for this function. The field named "Sum of Tax-deductible Amount" can be used by putting in 1 to 1000 to see anyone who has given a total of that amount over a period of time. Let me know if I misunderstood.

| I understand the batch way to do this but we records from 2007. On their next gift, if they hit one of those milestones, I'd like to send them a commendation letter. Any way to flag those milestone gifts? |

Hi BHershey,
There isn't a way to be automatically alerted when a donation is added which results in one of your Donors reaching one or your giving milestones (interesting idea though) but there is a fairly easy way you could monitor this monthly. Here's an idea of one way I would locate these Donors on a monthly basis:
Run your Batch Receipt Report with the date range set to 1/1/2007-today (as you indicated that is how far back your donor giving goes). Use the sum of tax deductible fields by putting your first bench mark amount of $1,000. in the first field and enter all 999999's in the second to encompass all greater amounts. Run your report, but change the view to "view as list". This will give you each Donor who has given $1,000 or greater historically listed just one time with their Total historical Giving listed in the "Total Received for Period" column. Click on the column header to resort this list in descending or ascending order. Scroll to those milestone amounts to see on a monthly basis those that just crossed over a milestone amount. Click the left link into their file to confirm, add a follow up task to send commendation letter, etc. You can use the completed follow up in the file to see if one was sent the prior month so as not to send again.
